About Caren Green:
Vocalist, poet, songwriter and musician Caren Green is a creator guided by feel-good, soul-stirring and spiritual influences. The New Orleans native is also a composer, actress, mother, doula and child advocate who likens her creative process to childbirth — difficult but fruitful. In 2017, she released her debut album, The Greenhouse Effect, which she released in 2019. In 2022, she will perform at internationally renowned events New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival and French Quarter Fest. Her 2021 appearances include a headlining gig at Three Keys inside the Ace Hotel and a cameo on musician Joshua Starkman’s viral Instagram series, Have A Great Day. Caren has also performed for the Jazz & Heritage Foundation and at the House of Blues in New Orleans.
In 2015, she released the single “Air I Breathe,” for which the music video has garnered nearly 10,000 views on YouTube. Green has worked with legendary No Limit Records rapper Mia X and acclaimed rapper Dee-1 and has appeared at the New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival, The National Fried Chicken Festival, the Tank and the Bangas Backyard Hangout, Bayou Boogaloo and performed a duet with Grammy-winning musician PJ Morton at the House of Blues in New Orleans. She has shared stages with or opened for Juvenile, Mystikal, Kelly Price, Silk, Kenny Lattimore, Monica, Tank and H-Town, among others. In 2018, Green was named the winner of the “Sing Like a Star” television show and has performed at the National Black Fireman’s Association Convention, the ESSENCE Welcome to My City House, the New Orleans Women and Children’s Shelter Gala and more. Armed with a desire to inspire others to share their light with the world and dream big, Green places authenticity and timelessness at the forefront of her artistry. “I am on assignment to affect people and their lives, to provoke change,” she says. Using words like “pensive” and “light bearing” to describe her music, the singer inspired by everything from gospel to hip-hop, jazz and classical music credits everyone from Stevie Wonder, Jill Scott and Nina Simone to Steve Jobs and Ava DuVernay as inspirations. Story-telling and struggle are often focal points of her work, which she attributes to her relationship with God and life experiences. Green also sources inspiration from individuals who make power moves for their families, creating positive change for future generations with social and political impact. It only takes one person or one song to affect such change, a mantra she keeps in mind before taking to the stage. “Darkness always wants what shines real bright,” she says. “You can smother the fire, but the right spark can ignite.
